Liquid Spills

  • Blot up the spill using a dry absorbent cloth or paper towel.
  • If spot remains, apply a small amount of water and white distilled vinegar (mixed 50/50) to a clean absorbent cloth or paper towel. Do not apply solutions directly to fabric!
  • Using a blotting motion apply the moistened cloth to the spot.
  • Dry rapidly using accelerated air movement (fans) if possible.
  • If spot remains or for more difficult spills (wine, bodily fluids, food dyes, etc.) call Sani-Bright for further suggestions or to schedule a professional cleaning.

Solids Spills

  • Using a dull knife or plastic credit card carefully scrape off any solids.
  • Using a dry absorbent cloth or paper towel blot up remaining solids/moisture.
  • Apply a small amount of water and white distilled vinegar (mixed 50/50) to a clean absorbent cloth or paper towel. Do not apply solutions directly to fabric!

What you shouldn’t do!

  • Don’t Panic! Even some of the worst looking spills can be removed with professional cleaning!
  • Resist the urge to use OTC carpet and upholstery spotting chemicals! Many times, these chemicals are too strong and are not formulated properly for the type of fabric or spill you may be dealing with, regardless of what the label says don’t do it!
  • Always use a blotting motion, never scrub back and forth or in circles over a spot. This motion can cause irreversible texture distortion on certain fabrics.
  • Do not apply solutions directly to your fabric. This can lead to over wetting, water rings, or in severe cases dye migration.

What you shouldn’t do!

  • Don’t Panic! Even some of the worst looking spills can be removed with professional cleaning!
  • Resist the urge to use OTC carpet spotting chemicals! Many times, these chemicals are too strong and are not formulated properly for the type of fiber or spill you may be dealing with, regardless of what the label says don’t do it!
  • Always use a blotting motion, never scrub back and forth or in circles over a spot. This motion can cause irreversible pile texture distortion.
  • Do not apply solutions directly to your rug, the dyes in rugs can be unstable. Over wetting a spot can lead to dye migration which is much more difficult to correct than most spots and spills!
